I've been a long-time fan of graphic designer extraordinaire Scott Hansen/ISO50--I may have, in fact, tried to mimic him in my earlier 'designer' days (when I had no clue what I was doing and obviously had no style of my own). This mimicry, was of course, a failure. I knew of his band because of the posters he designed for them, before the music. And then when I heard the music they played, I was hooked. It's the kind of music I want to hear on roadtrips, while skating, or in my head when attempting to surf, because the sound of crashing waves can be very intimidating, and I need precisely this kind of music to put things into perspective.
I was very excited when I found out they were playing here in Manila for the last leg of their Awake tour. I imagined it to be an experience for a lot of senses, a visual and aural delight, even more so if you had the luxury to be assisted furthermore by, uh, the trippy stuff. My imagined scenario was correct. It was a beautiful gig. Also, it was one of the tamer gigs I've ever been to, which isn't a complain. It was my first time at the Solaire Theatre, and I quite like the venue. I'm the farthest thing from an audio expert or anything like that, but the sound quality was amazing. It is precisely the type of event a 9 month pregnant lady is safe to attend to, I think.
So there. Thanks for coming over, Tycho.
